GTU First Year Semester 2 Syllabus
Second semester common subjects for all branches of GTU engineering — linear algebra and the elements of civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, environmental studies and workshop practice.
Mathematics-II
Linear algebra — vector spaces, matrices and Gauss elimination, linear transformations, inner product spaces and eigenvalues.
Elements of Civil Engineering
Introduction to civil engineering — scope of the field, surveying, construction materials, building construction, water resources and transportation.
Elements of Electrical Engineering
Basics of electrical engineering — DC circuits, electrostatics, electromagnetics, AC circuits, wiring, illumination and electrical safety.
Elements of Mechanical Engineering
Basics of mechanical engineering — thermodynamics, fuels, properties of gases & steam, heat engines, boilers, IC engines, pumps and power transmission.
Basics of Environmental Studies
Environment, ecology and ecosystems — natural resources, population, biogeochemical cycles, environmental pollution and global issues.
Workshop
Hands-on exposure to the industrial environment, hand tools, machine tools and shop-floor processes across carpentry, fitting, welding and more.
